Sciebo
Service description
It is a cloud storage service based on the Owncloud software. The storage locations are the universities of Münster (consortium leader), Bonn and Duisburg-Essen. A total of 30 GB of free storage is available to students and staff. University staff can also increase their data volume to 500 GB (sciebo homepage → my sciebo → select university → login → expand volume).
All documents can be synchronised on many mobile and stationary devices and shared with cooperation partners from the participating universities. With the sharing option, other students and staff as well as external project partners can be allowed access to documents.
However, the cloud is not backed up.
Each user is therefore responsible for the security of the data. Please also make sure - as with any cloud service - to encrypt sensitive data in particular before storing it in Sciebo. One way to do this with Sciebo is to use Cryptomator on the client side.
Sciebo, the NRW Cloud, can be used by students, HHU staff and the academic teaching staff of the UKD.
Interested parties can register themselves on the page mentioned on the right. Registration takes place via DFN-AAI (Shibboleth). Afterwards, the corresponding identifier (uni-kennung@uni-duesseldorf.de) is administered by Sciebo itself. You choose a new password for your Sciebo account, which functions independently of your general password for the university identification.
In the download section you will find clients for different operating systems for those who do not like to work with the web interface itself. Please do not use the original Owncloud IOS client, it costs money and is not pre-configured to Sciebo.
No additional fees are charged to users for the service.
On the Sciebo homepage you will find comprehensive instructions that should help you get started:
First-level support for Sciebo for HHU members is provided by the ZIM helpdesk, see contact address on the right.
Further information for all HHU members can be found in the Wiki:
